PREVIEW | LONG EATON UNITED (a)
THE YOUNG LIONS BEGIN THEIR SPRING CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE PROMOTED CHAMPIONS OF WINTER DIVISION ONE
This weekend’s featured team, Mickleover RBL u13 Lions make the trip to the 4G pitch at Grange Park in Long Eaton, where they face a Long Eaton side who were promoted following a successful Winter campaign, winning all seven of their matches in Division One Blue, to be crowned champions.
After a solid fifth placed finish in the winter Premier Division, RBL will be looking to build on that success in the Spring season. The nine match campaign begins with what will be a very tough match against a team who will be flying high with confidence.
RBL’s last fixture date saw them have to fulfil two matches in one day on December the 17th as time had run out on the Winter season. Their first match was a 3-2 victory against Heanor Town Juniors. Rinalds Bartais bagged once and Blake Coulson scored twice to take the points for RBL. In the second match of the day, the Lions faced a fresh Willington Rams side. A brave performance from RBL was not quite enough against the side who went on to win the league. The Lions started brightly, but conceded a 25 yard free kick. They got it back to 1-1 and hit the post. With the lads tiring, they conceded with just five minutes to go. Man of the match was Harvey Oakes. With two fifty minute games, the lads showed heart and desire and we can’t be more proud of them.
Long Eaton’s last match was way back on the 19th of November, where a 6-1 win against Gedling Southbank Rangers wrapped up their Winter season in style, winning all of their seven matches, having scored forty eight times along the way, conceding just seven.
